A big thank you goes out to Alexis Finch who is our judge for the Adobe Imaging Portfolio Award this year at our annual Photography Exhibition.

Alexis is a graduate of our program currently working out of Toronto. She has been working in the field for the last 10 years photographing celebrities from Tanya Kim, Zaki Ibrahim, Lauryn Hill to Al Green.

Applied Arts Student Contest

Applied Arts Student Contest is on with a deadline for entry of May 14, 2010.

I know all of our student's have portfolios done so enter those images to win prizes, cash and fame.

Christos Co-Op in LA

Our student's are on co-op right now and we love to hear how they are doing, both from the student and the people they are working with.

One of our student's Christos seems to be doing very well down in Los Angles with Kwaku hanging out on the beach and lounging in a very hip house overlooking the valley.

Thank you Kwaku for sending us some photos of Christos in LA, we hope all our students are having a great learning experience on co-op.

For all our 1st year students take a look at the camera being used in the photos, an 8x10 View Camera, and then take a look a Kwaku's site and learn to love large format.

Steve McCurry Lecture Museum of Civilization

As a tie into their Afghanistan Exhibition the Museum of Civilization will be hosting a lecture by photojournalist Steve McCurry. For you budding photo-journalists this is a must see lecture:

Behind The Scenes Series - Bowie

Our first Behind the Scenes video is of Michael Bowie, aka Bowie to students and staff here in the Program, our printing guru.

This Behind the Scenes vignette is of our second year students in Post-Produciton class printing, matt cutting, framing and hanging their own prints in our labs and classrooms.

We put a lot of emphasis on printing and stress the importance of taking pride in ones work, so careful attention is given when showcasing a final print.

Behind The Scenes Series

We want to show off some of the strengths that we think make our two year program so unique. Our students, facilities and our faculty and staff that help, instruct and motivate our students to succeed.

This new ongoing series of videos aptly named Behind the Scenes will showcase all this and give prospective students a window into what really goes on over the course of two years in the Algonquin College Photography Program.

Rémi Thériault's One Night Stand

I recently received an email from Rémi Thériault about a one night stand he is having.

The one night stand is a member show at La Petite Mort Gallery by the way. His show is called Instant Stories and will showcase his recent Polaroid work.

It is a one nighter so if you want to see the show you must be there Friday April 9th 2010 from 7-10PM.

Profoto Assistant's Competition

Profoto's Monthly Assistant Photographer Competition, for all of our graduates now working as assistants here is a contest for you, check out Profoto's website for details.

Genevieve Thauvette Exhibition

Genevieve Thauvette a recent graduate of the Photography Program and a regular blog topic here at the Algonquin Photography Blog is having a show at the Dale Smith Gallery.

The exhibition is of her Award Winning Photographs: Les Quintuplées Dionne and starts April 8th at 7PM and will run to May 4th.

Check out her website, she is definitely one of the most interesting artist working in Ottawa.

Second Year Portfolio Drop Off 2010

The deadline was drawing near for our second year students; the last half and hour before their final portfolios were due.

As many graduates can recall this time of year is crazy for our second year students, stress is high and tempers start to fly but everything gets done in the end.

We would like to congratulate all of our second year students on a successful completion of their final portfolios and good luck in all their future endeavours.
