Second Year Portfolio Drop Off 2010

The deadline was drawing near for our second year students; the last half and hour before their final portfolios were due.

As many graduates can recall this time of year is crazy for our second year students, stress is high and tempers start to fly but everything gets done in the end.

We would like to congratulate all of our second year students on a successful completion of their final portfolios and good luck in all their future endeavours.

Featured Photographers - Banner Ads

For our lead up to Exhibition 2010 we have begun posting banner ads designed by and for our Second Year Students. These banner ads showcase their own work and link to their blog or website.

The ads are in our sidebar below the search field and will change every couple of days, check back often to see new student work.

National Gallery Exhibition Lecture

This Sunday, March 7 at 2 pm the National Gallery of Canada's James Borcoman, Curator Emeritus of the exhibition 19th-Century French Photographs, will give a lecture on the exhibition.

The price of the lecture is included in the admission to National Art Gallery, $12 dollars for students.

Photo Exhibition 2010 - Top Fundraiser

This is a big thank you to Rebecca Balfour for raising $200 for our annual Photography Exhibition.

Rebecca has been diligently selling her own prints and donating a large portion of the money to the exhibition fund, check out her brand new website to see more of her work.

Adobe Photoshop 20th Anniversary

This month Adobe Photoshop is celebrating its 20th anniversary, take a look at Adobe's site to read more about the history of the software we use everyday.

Thanks Thomas and John Knoll we all love Photoshop.

National Gallery Exhibition

From February 5 to May 16 the National Gallery of Canada has an exhibition of 19th Century French Photography.

The exhibition will showcase daguerreotypes, salted paper, albumen silver and photogravure prints by Eugène Atget, Édouard Baldus, Maxime Du Camp, Gustave Le Gray, Nadar and others.

Magazine Cover Insipiration

Our second year students are finishing up their Movie Poster Assignment and are now moving on to their Magazine Cover.

For a little inspiration here is time-lapse video of photographer Peter Belanger, a San Francisco based photographer, shooting the September 2009 Macworld cover and Rob Schultz the Macworld art director designing the cover.

Negative Space Contest | Elevator Digital

Bob Carnie from Elevator Digital in Toronto sponsored the student competition, Negative Space. Over the Christmas Break the 2nd year students were commissioned to shoot images that incorporated negative space.

The dynamic Jessica Deeks took the grand prize with her image below and won free printing from Elevator Digital.

All the students and staff would like to thank Bob for sponsoring the contest and coming up to Ottawa with his wife and two dogs to give a talk on printing, photography, and the future of the imaging industry. A great time was had by all!!

Bridgestone Photo Competition Winners

This year the annual Bridgestone Competition Awards Show was held at Algonquin College.

Thanks to all the Bridgestone Staff, Judges and of course the Students and Staff who attended, our school winners this years are:

Portrait of the Artist Show

The arts & architecture show Portrait of the Artist vernissage will be on Friday February 19, 2010 from 7-10PM and the show will run from February 17-28, 2010.

Along with some great local photographers there will be some awesome Algonquin Photography Alumni in the show Scott Keown, Rebecca Leach and Bridget Farr along with two of our current students the intrepid Thomas Dagg and the dynamic Jessica Deeks.
