Dan Neutel | Alumni Update

A few years ago we received a request from a Algonquin Journalism Student Dan Neutel, he wanted to  brush up on his photo skills and take a few of our courses.  

Dan is a keen observer of the world around him and quickly took to the increased class workload with zeal.  He was a pleasure to teach and we all enjoyed his enthusiasm for the art and craft of photograph.

Well on CBC's Ottawa Morning yesterday who do we hear being interviewed, none other that Dan himself talking about his new photo project, Project Rooftop.  Congrats to Dan on the great photo project and we love the A.KA., The Batman Tour Of Ottawa.

Colin Gaudet | Student Profile

Colin Gaudet our resident fashion photographer has been very busy lately.

He has an editorial published in Fave Magazine and another editorial and the front cover of Press The Fashion Magazine.

Congrats to Colin on the getting published and creating some beautiful images.

Bryan McNally | Alumni Update

Alumni Bryan McNally, aka Shooter McNally, recently won Best Film and Best Actor at the OIFF 72 Hour Film Challenge for his film Change.  The OIFF 72 Hour Film Challenge is a competition with some pretty interesting guidelines:

1. Film had to include a penny in it
2. Had to include the line "Take a penny leave a penny"
3. Had to use songs from at least 3 local artists (There is some great music in this film!!)
4. Had to feature the number 5 (Fifth Anniversary of OIFF)
5. The theme was Freedom

To top it all off of course it had to be shot, edited and rendered in 72 hours.  The film is also being considered by CBC for a National Indie Short Film Faceoff.  Congrats to Bryan on a great vid and for the win!!

Garry Carter Is Moving On Up

Garry "G-Dawg" Carter is leaving the Photography Program to take over as Acting Chair of General Arts and Science.  For those not in the know, that is a big promotion and something we all feel he greatly deserves.

At the same time it is a little sad for the Faculty, Staff, Student and Alumni as he has helped shape the Photography Program for almost two decades and has seen countless photographers pass through his classes.

Carter you will definitely be missed by all and Filum will never sound the same again.

Second Year Student John Paillé recently did a photo shoot with National Chief Shawn A-in-chut Atleo.

We are very please to announce that the portraits are now online at the Assembly of First Nations site and on the National Chief's page.

Tyler Talks About Helmet Safety

Check out this article on CTV Ottawa News, it is about our very own Tyler Lisacek, First Year Algonquin Photography student, also take a look at him on CTV News.

In it he talks about his brain injury and his quest to get kids to wear helmets. Also included are some very interesting stats on winter safety and why we should be wearing helmets on toboggan hills and skating rinks.

There is also some must read info from CHEO about the signs and symptoms of concussions.

Dylan Leeder | Alumni Update

Alumni Dylan Leeder is having a show this December in Toronto and the opening night is tomorrow, Dec 5th.

The show is at the Steam Whistle Brewery and also features the work of Maria Jose Govea so if you are in TO stop by to check it out.
