Rafael Goldchain | Beautifully Broken

Rafael Goldchain Artist and Photography Program Coordinator at Sheridan College in Toronto has a documentary airing on TVO this Wednesday May 15 at 9PM.  

The documentary is called Beautifully Broken and deals with his,

"Fascination with identity and mortality stems from his Jewish heritage and ancestors who died in the Holocaust.  Understanding the complexity of Jewish identity is something Goldchain hopes to pass on to his son."

Movie Night | The Mexican Suitcase

For the first Movie Night of the year we will be showing The Mexican Suitcase.  The showing is tonight, Thursday October 18, in room C131 at 6:30PM.

The Mexican Suitcase is an amazing tale of three great photo-journalists Gerda Taro, Robert Capa and David "Chim" Seymour the Spanish Civil War and their missing negatives.

100 Most Influential Photographers List

Here is a list for all photographers and especially our History students who will soon start to work on their Photo Buddy assignment.  It is the 100 Most Influential Photographers Of All Time list from Professional Photographer.

Vik Muniz | Waste Land

Movie Night | Helvetica

This Monday March 5, we will be showing the film Helvetica.

The movie starts at 6:30PM in room C131 and we guarantee that you will have a Helvetica good time.

Movie Night | Julius Shulman

Movie Night is tonight and we will be showing Visual Acoustics The Modernism Of Julius Shulman.

This is great and timely film for our First Year Students who are just about to start shooting their architecture images.

The screening is starts Monday February 13th at 6:30PM in C131.

Marwencol

Here is an interesting movie about photographer Mark Hogancamp who uses photography as therapy.

He has created a fictional world populated by GI Joe figures he calls Marwencol, which he photographs.  Check out the Marwencol website to find out more about Mark and his amazing fictional world.

Thanks to first year student Kristopher Laplante for letting us know about this great film, we now have it on order at the LRC.

Abelardo Morell Book & Documentary

One of the very first photographers we look at in our History of Photography course is Abelardo Morell, we are very please to have his book Camera Obscura at the LRC.

This book has some of the most visually interesting images we have ever seen.

We are also please to have a documentary about Abelardo Morell, Shadow of the House, at the LRC.

This documentary looks at Morell's creative process and follows him on his journey back home to Cuba for the first time since he escaped.

Live Today | Jordan Wiens

Student Jordan Wiens and his friend Keith Lanctot, have released their second trailer for their documentary, Live Today, about children battling cancer at Ronald McDonald House and Rogers House for Kids.   Take a look at the trailer above and visit the links below to show your support.

Bill Cunningham New York

July 27 and 28th at the Bytowne Cinema in Ottawa the film Bill Cunningham New York is playing.  This documentary is about Bill Cunningham author and photographer for the New York Times On The Street column.

The Negative Effect Trailer

The Negative Effect is film about a group of youngsters from Kuala Lumpur fascinated about film and lomography.

It is very interesting and great to once again see a resurgence in film photography many of our students have the same fascination for the medium.

Live Today | Jordan Wiens

We are always proud of our students in the Program and especially today.

We just got an email from student Jordan Wiens who is working with a friend of his, Keith Lanctot, on a documentary about children battling cancer at Ronald McDonald House and Rogers House for Kids.   The trailer for their documentary Live Today is above.

They are attempting to win the Hot 89.9 Royal Bounty and if they do they are donating the $100,000 prize to these two great charities.

Abelardo Morell Documentary

One of our favorite photographers Abelardo Morell is featured in a new documentary Shadow Of The House.

Morell is best known to our students from History of Photography class because of his creative use of a Camera Obscura. This documentary showcases Morell's creative process and talks about his new photo project by documenting a journey back to his native Cuba.



This video is on our wish list for the LRC so for our students look for it there soon.

The Genius of Photography Now On Youtube

The great BBC series The Genius of Photography now has their own Youtube channel.  This six part documentary is now available to watch legally and for free online and covers the history of photography from its birth to its present incarnation.

Sally Mann - What Remains

Sally Mann is one of America's greatest photographers working today.  Her exploration into old film processes like the collodion process  have produced amazing and beautiful images.

Her documentary style illustrates that you do not have to travel far from home to create beautiful works of art.

What Remains is a intriguing and touching portrait of an artist, the DVD is at the LRC.

Karsh Is History

A new addition to the LRC, Karsh is History, this great Canadian photographer is showcased in this great DVD.
