Chris Wynn | Alumni Update

Chris Wynn an Algonquin Photography Alumni is having a screening of his film Forgetful Not Forgotten on Monday November 1, 2010 at 4PM in T102 at Algonquin College.

This film deals with the impact and conditions of Alzheimer's Disease on care givers and their families. Please register for this free event here.

Moshe Safdie

Thanks to Valerie for sending us the info on this current show at the National Gallery, Global Citizen The Architecture of Moshe Safdie.

Moshe Safdie has designed some of the most interesting buildings around the world, one of our favourites the Habitat 67 in Montreal and of course the National Gallery itself here in Ottawa.

For our second year students just getting into their architectural shooting this is a must see show.

MET Lectures iTunes

Laszlo Moholy-Nagy 

The MET has some great lectures on iTunes, the lecture on their photographic collection is very interesting and covers both historical and contemporary photography.

While there check out their audio and special exhibition sections there is a great lecture by Robert Frank.  

Starved for Attention

Starved for Attention: The crisis of childhood malnutrition is a multimedia show at Saint Paul University in Ottawa.  This exhibition features work of award-winning photojournalists from the VII Photo Agency.

The exhibition aim is to shed light on the causes of malnutrition around the world and how to combat this condition.

This free exhibition is being put on by Doctors Without Borders and runs from October 13 - 31 in the Atrium, Guigues Hall at Saint Paul University in Ottawa.

Thanks to Erin from first year for bringing this exhibition to our attention.  It is very appropriate as our first years are studying social documentary photography and photojournalism over the next two weeks in History class.

FSA Photos Library of Congress

The Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division has some great photographs from the Great Depression, they include classic images by Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans and many more.

You can also download high resolution version of the images free.

SAW Video Workshop

Thanks to Anique for sending us this information on the free Grant Writing Workshop at SAW.  This seminar is free and is taking place on October 22nd from 4PM-6PM.

While there take a look through the SAW Gallery for some great local art from local artists.

ARTpreneur 2010 A Conference for Artist and Artisans if being held again this year at OCRI Entrepreneurship Centre.  

This event will cover Grants, Financing, Arts Associations and General Business.  

Tickets are $35 dollars for students and before October 14th $35 dollars for everyone else to after that they are $40.

The top choices for this event will be unveiled at the Guggenheim Museum on October 21 and available on YouTube.

Algonquin College LipDub

Algonquin College's Media and Design Department is being included in the LipDub phenomenon. This unique experience is best described by watching the video above.
