Final Portfolio Interviews 2011 - Day 4
The final day of the Portfolio Interviews went very well, once again there were many great images.
From the Faculty and Staff congratulations to all the Second Year Students on the successful completion of your portfolios and your two years in the Program. We are all looking forward to the 38th Annual Photography Exhibition and celebrating your success.
For those that don't know the Exhibition this year is at Algonquin College in room T102 on Monday May 2, 2011.

Day Three of the Final Portfolio Interviews were once again very strong, the images above are a mixed of the assigned and self-directed images from the days portfolios.
There are quite a few images from the Movie Poster and Magazine Assignment which is always fun to critique and of course for our students to shoot.

Regular followers of the Program Blog know that Garry Carter recently received a NISOD Award of Excellence.
The Algonquin Times, in their current issue, has an article on our intrepid coordinator. The article was written by Dan Neutel who many of the First Years will know from Visual Perception and Design class.

2nd Year Final Portfolio
This video is of the Second Years finishing up their Final Portfolios.
This time lapse is comprised of one thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine still images shot every fifteen seconds from 8AM to 4PM the day the portfolio was due and surprise the second year lab was very busy.
The Final Portfolio is comprised of twelve portfolio pieces Environmental Portrait, Architecture, Food, Self-Portrait, Movie Poster, Magazine Cover, Consumer Portrait, Creative Ad and four Self-Directed images.
Our Final Portfolio interviews begin on Monday so we hope all our Second Years are getting some well deserved rest this weekend.

Spring is in the air the birds are singing, flowers and trees are budding and here in the program we have some budding young photographers. The Second Year portfolios are due at the end of the week and our students are eager to leave the nest and strut their stuff.
So for the remainder of the week we will be showing some fresh new images from our Second Years. Above are images from the Magazine Cover Assignment they are shot and designed by students Liz Flegg and Jodie Biesenthal.

Library & Archives Canada | Field Trip
The Library and Archives photo division is staffed by almost all Algonquin Photography Alumni and every year they take many of our students for co-op.

New Algonquin Student Commons Building
Here is a link that is not photo related but it is about Student Life here at the College. In the fall of 2012 there will be a new Student Commons building.
This building will house a 700 seat auditorium and other student related spaces. This will be an amazing space for our Annual Student Photo Exhibitions.

Danny Cohen | I Want To Be Your Assistant
Here is an interesting way to get an assisting job, Danny Cohen a Melbourne photographer really wanted to be David LaChapelle's assistant.
So when LaChapelle was passing through his home town he printed a 43 foot banner and plastered it across a bridge, it said David LaChapelle I Want To Be Your Assistant.com.
Within an hour he got the job, check out his website www.iwanttobeyourassistant.com.

The Chapel - Time Lapse
Our 2nd Year Students are now working on their motion assignments here is a great video, The Chapel, to give them a bit of inspiration. It is a time lapse film from Patryk Kizny he is a Polish director and shot the entire film in HDR.

Photo Pub Night
This Thursday March 3, 2011 at Grace O'Malley's our students are having a Pub Night to help raise funds for their Annual Photography Exhibition.
The Pub Night Tickets are $3 in advance and $5 at the door, so come out have a drink and support a good cause, our students.
