2009 Bridgestone Contest

We have been invited once again to compete in the Bridgestone Photo Contest details of the contest will be discussed in class.

This year the prizes are cash and cameras so start thinking of ideas that fit within the contest theme. This year the theme is Bridgestone's commitment to community, to the environment, and to safety.

Thanks again to Bridgestone for including us in their 8th annual addition of this contest.

Alumni in the Francophone Games

Genevieve Thauvette a recent graduate of the Photography Program is featured in the Ottawa Citizen today in the ARTS & LIFE section.

Her images have been selected to compete in the Culture competition at the Francophone Games this year in Beirut.

Definitely check out her website she is one of the most interesting artist working in Ottawa.

For those that are looking for costumes one of the best places in town is the Ottawa Little Theatre. They have a large selection of period costumes that will not empty your budget.

Call to Artists: Community Galleries Selection 2009


The City of Ottawa is accepting applications from local artist who want to show their work in the City of Ottawa Community Galleries.

The application process is open to anyone residing within a 150km radius of Ottawa.

The purpose of the Community Galleries:
  • To provide exhibition space free of charge to local and regional artists, increasing opportunities for both emerging and established artists to exhibit quality works of art in public spaces
  • To provide access and exposure to the arts for the residents of Ottawa
  • To enhance public awareness and to promote the visual arts in the City of Ottawa

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) Photo Fundraiser

LA PETITE MORT GALLERY

One of the preeminent Contemporary Art Galleries in Ottawa La Petite Mort (306 Comberland St.) is having a fundraiser show in support of Doctors Without Borders.

Some of Ottawa's leading and up and coming photographers will be included in this show including Jackson Couse and Rémi Thériault both Algonquin Photography Alumni.

The show runs from September 25 - 27, 2009 and the Vernissage is Friday Sept 25 from 7-10PM.

Astronomy Photographer of the Year

The Royal Observatory in Greenwich England has named its first Astronomy Photographer of the Year. This new annual competition is free and open to anyone interested check out the site to see some really cool images of the night sky.

You might see some of these photographs around campus advertising a new line of clothes at the Algonquin First Class Bookstore they were taken by our very own Jen Allison congratulations buddy.

Camera Obscura

September 15 - 17, 2009 the Algonquin Photography Camera Obscura will be up in room C126 come experience what it is like to be inside a camera.

The first recorded use of a Camera Obscura was in the 5th century BCE by the Chinese Philosopher Mo-Ti, this device was also use by Aristotle (384-322 BCE) and the Islamic Scientist Alhazen (965 - 1039), this unique phenomenon is a must see.

The 2009 Algonquin Photography Website was launched at our Orientation last week. New alumni images are up on the main page click the plus sign (bottom left) to advance to the next image, they are random so be patient.

Pizza Orientation '09 - Thanks!!



Thanks to all the students and graduates that attended our annual Pizza Orientation it was a great kick off to our upcoming year.

Thanks to our suppliers Shereen and Doe from Apple, Dino from Henry's, Ken from Labworks and Andre´ and Mike from Vistek for taking the time to come and meet our students and of course, thanks for all the goodies.
